Changes to Discussion Forum

This weekend (beginning Friday evening, Fed 15th) we will be making improvements to the Discussion Forum [on Neighborhoodlink-hosted websites]. Most of these changes are designed to address issues that Neighborhood Link users have brought to our attention.

First, all posts will now be accompanied by the username of the person posting them. If you have always posted anonymously in the past because your username contains your real name or email address, you will have the chance to change your username before posting in the new discussion area.

Also, we are improving the layout of the Discussions so that all posts in a thread are visible at one time, and making it possible for you to communicate with other neighborhoods.

There will now be a way for anyone to report any post they feel is inappropriate. An automated system will handle the retention or removal of these posts.

Finally, each user will have a rating based on several different criteria chosen to highlight those who are the most respected and helpful. This rating level will be automatically assigned by our server and will change often, reflecting how users are seen within the Neighborhood Link community.

An ''Under Construction'' page will let you know the process is underway.
None of the current posts will be lost; they will all show up in the new format.

We are very excited by these enhancements and we continue to seek your input and ideas for further improvements in the future!

It would be nice for the administrator for each community to be able to pick and choose a topics that would be relevant to our Community - but to just have 20 pages of discussion topics added only confuses things.  We do not care what time the meeting is for a neighborhood in Fort Worth when we are in Houston.  We aren't concerned with sex offenders in other towns, or what the air smells like there.  Maybe a second grouping with a definite break in the page showing of subdivisions and organizations within a 25 mile radius of us would be nice but the group of discussions from our organization needs to be very clear. Other than the heading that has our organizations name there is nothing that explains that all of these discussions are not from people in our group unless you happen to pick up on tag. If there was a line or a color change it would be very helpful.  It is not real obvious that there is a difference. If there was a forum to go to designed speciffically for sharing info I would visit it and make comments when I felt like I had and idea or something that might help or if I had a problem and I was looking for suggestions on what to do I would post a question. But I am not going to look through 20 pages of posts to see if someone has the same problem or if I might be able help some other group.  I am sure such a forum would really be appreciated. I do not like this set up at all and would appreciate it being changed back. Respectfully, GRNCSC

I agree with GRNCSC. This format is frustrating to use. I would think if you limited the pages to each community that the system would possibly work a little faster. I like the new format for it's accountability and identification of users, but I don't like the trade-off for speed and ease of use.

I too, am very dissatisfied with the new discussion forum.  At least with the previous format, I was able to see all the discussions taking place and how old they were.  Now I have to go through 20 pages of discussions from across the country!  Additionally, as the coordinator for our neighborhood, I had the ability to delete discussions that were old or inappropriate.  I no longer have that ability.  I do not need to check with Neighborhood Link everytime I need something done.  I will be meeting with my Association's board next month and see what feedback they have but I am willing to bet it will not be good.
